Harlem Village Academies is a community of educators working to build an urban school district based on the ideals and tenets of progressive education. HVA is the demonstration site for the Progressive Education Institute. The curriculum team intern will assist our literacy curriculum team with preparations for the upcoming school year.
This is a great opportunity for talented students to learn more about the organizational and administrative work that goes into literacy curriculum planning and implementation.
The ideal candidate is a highly-organized, detail-oriented individual with strong time management skills, a commitment to education reform, and an interest in the behind-the-scenes work that goes into planning a school year. We are looking for a strong team player who is excited to pitch in and handle needs as they arise. A love of reading and an interest in children’s literature are pluses!
The Intern will be working 35 hours per week from June 17 through August 14.
Inventory and organize physical books and curricular materials for ongoing use
Scan, copy, and/or upload curricular materials to Google drive for school leader and teacher access
Receive, sort, label, and organize books for school use
Format leader- and teacher-facing materials
Additional projects and administrative duties as needed
Current high school senior or student working towards a college degree
Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willing to be hands-on and do whatever it takes to support a successful school year launch (Note: this position does entail some lifting and moving boxes, handling books, etc.)
Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
