The Opportunity
As the Dean of Student and Family Affairs, you will be a close partner with the Chief of Community and Culture, the school principal, and other faculty to help students overcome obstacles to their academic, social, and emotional success at school. You will work closely and directly with students who are having challenges at school, manifested in their conduct in or out of the classroom. You will serve as a role model to our students, holding them to the highest standards of character and conduct while forming close relationships that inspire them to give their best every day.
The ideal candidate is a smart, passionate educator with an extraordinary ability to connect with, inspire, and mentor young people. S/he has a talent for working with kids who struggle at school. S/he is great at helping students become more reflective and take more ownership over their education. S/he is genuinely kind, thrives on a dynamic team, and builds caring, strong relationships with students and other faculty.
Responsibilities:
- Build and reinforce lasting relationships with families to support students’ success
- Maintain and analyze discipline data to guide proactive supports and targeted interventions for students
- Model and lead in upholding our high behavioral expectations as outlined in our Student and Family Handbook
- Maintain a strong, visible presence during critical times such as arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, and recess to foster a safe, structured, and joyful environment.
- Collaborate with the School Leadership Team and Culture Committee to shape and implement school-wide culture strategies.
- Provide responsive, real-time support in classrooms and act as the primary contact for urgent student behavior concerns.
- Manage student accountability processes, including administration of out-of-class consequences and suspension procedures.
- Guide and support teachers in applying restorative practices effectively within their classrooms.
- Ensures the HVA dress code policies are met and addresses infractions
- Collaborates with the leadership team on community events
Ideal Candidates Possesses:
- A bachelor’s degree in education or related field
- 4+ years of related professional experience
- A commitment to students with diverse learning needs
- Excellent ability to engage and work with families
- A high level of personal and professional organization and attention to detail
- Able to implement feedback quickly and effectively
- Personal integrity and perseverance
- Desire to work with folks who are super smart and take themselves very seriously
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $74,000 - $95,000, and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final salary may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications. HVA is committed to providing our team with a range of benefit offerings at a competitive value.
